T&B Leather Burnishing Wax | Premium Blend for a High-Gloss Finish
Achieve a Flawless, Glass-Like Edge. The Professional Finish Your Projects Deserve.
Essential for any leatherworker, from seasoned expert to passionate beginner, our premium T&B Burnishing Wax is formulated to transform raw leather edges into smooth, high-gloss, durable seals that truly stand out. Give your leather projects the signature, polished finish that separates good work from great work.
The Perfect Blend: Why T&B Wax?
Through extensive testing in our workshop, we perfected the T&B Wax recipe. It features a synergistic blend of three premium, organic, and ethically sourced waxes, each chosen for a specific purpose:
Local Pacific Northwest Beeswax: Sourced from a trusted local bee farm, this provides a smooth application, natural conditioning, and a fantastic base for the other waxes.
Candelilla Wax: This wax contributes exceptional hardness, creating a tough, protective layer on the edge that resists dings and scratches.
Carnauba Wax: Renowned as the "Queen of Waxes," Carnauba delivers a brilliant, high-gloss shine and superior resistance to wear and moisture.
This precise combination creates a hard, slick shell that not only looks incredible but also protects your leather edges from daily wear and moisture absorption.
Key Benefits:
Produces a slick, high-gloss, professional edge finish.
Forms a durable, hard seal protecting against wear and moisture.
Easy to apply and work into leather fibers.
Made with natural, ethically sourced, high-quality waxes.
Effectively smooths and seals edge fibers for a clean, polished look.
What's Included:
1 x Puck of T&B Burnishing Wax (~1 oz / 28g)
1 x Square of Heavy-Duty Canvas Cloth (Ideal for application and achieving a high shine)
A Note on Your Canvas: You'll receive one canvas cloth per order. We typically don't include extras unless you order more than three wax pucks at once. Why? Because a single cloth becomes more effective as wax accumulates in the fibers over time – we've successfully used one cloth through more than eight pucks!
How to Achieve the Perfect Burnished Edge
For optimal results, remember that generating friction and heat is key to melting the wax into the fibers for the best seal and shine.
Step 1: Prepare Your Edge (Highly Recommended)
Bevel your leather edges using an edge beveler tool for a rounded, professional profile.
Sand the beveled edge progressively with finer grit sandpaper (e.g., start with 220, move to 400, finish with 600 or higher) until smooth to the touch. Wipe away all sanding dust.
Step 2: Wet & Initial Smoothing
Dampen the prepared edge lightly with water, Gum Tragacanth, or Tokonole.
Slick the damp edge firmly with a wood burnishing tool or bone folder. This compresses and lays down the leather fibers. Let the edge dry for a few minutes.
Step 3: Apply T&B Wax
Rub the T&B Wax puck directly and firmly onto the smoothed edge. Apply a thin, even layer.
Step 4: Burnish with Friction & Heat
Using Canvas: Fold the provided canvas into a firm pad. Vigorously rub the waxed edge back and forth, applying firm pressure. Speed and pressure create the heat needed to melt the wax into the leather, sealing the fibers and building the shine.
Using our Leather Burnishing Tool: Alternatively, use the appropriately sized groove on our Cocobolo wood leather burnishing tool, hand slicker, rubbing rapidly with firm pressure.
Step 5: Refine & Polish (Optional)
For an even higher "glassy" gloss, apply a second, very light coat of wax and repeat the vigorous burnishing process.
If you have a Dremel with our wood burnishing attachment, you can use it on a low speed after hand burnishing to significantly increase the gloss level.
